Something big is brewing in the Wasteland – and it’s not just another pack of Deathclaws. Fallout fans, brace yourselves: multiple new projects are officially in the works over at Bethesda, and this time the hype is more than just irradiated smoke. From long-awaited sequels to fan-favorite remasters, it looks like the post-apocalyptic party is just getting started.
New Vegas in the Pipeline?

It all started when Jordan Middler, a reputable industry insider, dropped a tantalizing hint on the Friends Per Second podcast. According to him, Bethesda currently has several Fallout-related projects in development, and one of them is – quote – “that one you’re all wanting.” That line alone sent shockwaves through the fandom. Because let’s be real, when someone says that Fallout game, there’s only one title that immediately leaps to the top of the wish list: Fallout New Vegas 2.
And yep, that might actually be happening. Middler doubled down on that during a follow-up segment, straight-up saying, “New Vegas 2 coming soon.” Now, to be clear, this doesn’t mean it’s dropping next year, or even the year after. But “coming soon” in dev speak suggests that pre-production or early-stage development has already begun. It may not have been officially confirmed by Bethesda, but let’s just say this is the most solid lead we’ve gotten since Obsidian themselves cheekily tweeted “we’d love to” when asked about making another New Vegas.

But the Fallout revival isn’t stopping with a single sequel. There’s been credible chatter around remasters of both Fallout 3 and New Vegas as standalone projects. This isn’t just Reddit wish fulfillment either – remember that leaked Microsoft document during the FTC trial? It clearly listed a Fallout 3 remaster as part of the company’s internal roadmap. And with the massive success of Amazon’s Fallout TV series, which just wrapped an explosive first season and is confirmed to be heading to New Vegas for Season 2, the timing for remasters of those specific entries couldn’t be more strategic.
There’s also the elephant in the irradiated room: Fallout 5. Todd Howard has already said it’s coming – but only after Elder Scrolls VI. Given that Elder Scrolls is still likely years away from release, Fallout 5 is definitely on the backburner for now. But according to Middler, it is one of the multiple Fallout titles currently being planned or in early development. That’s huge. Bethesda is clearly laying the groundwork for a future where Fallout isn’t just a one-game-every-decade kind of franchise anymore.
And that brings us to the bigger picture. This isn’t just about one sequel or a flashy remaster. This is Microsoft, now the parent company of Bethesda, finally starting to treat Fallout as the flagship IP it’s always deserved to be. The Xbox strategy here is pretty transparent: expand the Fallout universe across multiple formats, platforms, and experiences. You’ve got the TV series drawing in new audiences. You’ve got potential remasters to re-engage veterans. And you’ve got at least two major game projects – New Vegas 2 and Fallout 5 – being quietly developed behind the scenes.
This approach makes sense when you consider how Fallout has evolved into more than just a game series. It’s a pop culture juggernaut now. The moment the TV series dropped, Fallout 4 shot to the top of Steam’s best-seller charts, with over a million daily players. Fans aren’t just hungry for new content – they’re starving for it. And Bethesda, after years of leaving the IP dormant post-Fallout 76, finally seems ready to serve up a multi-course meal.
We still don’t know which studios are leading each project. Is Obsidian really back for New Vegas 2? Is Bethesda Austin – formerly working on Fallout 76 – involved in the remasters? Could an entirely new studio under the Xbox umbrella be taking a swing at Fallout 5? Those answers remain under wraps for now. But one thing’s for sure: this isn’t a drill.
So, here’s where we’re at. Fallout 5 is officially in the pipeline, even if it’s a long way out. A sequel to New Vegas is very likely in early development. Remasters of Fallout 3 and possibly New Vegas are being quietly prepped, potentially to line up with Season 2 of the show. And Bethesda, backed by Microsoft, is finally treating Fallout like the billion-dollar franchise it’s always had the potential to be.
The Wasteland is heating up again, and for the first time in years, it’s not just from nuclear fire. We are entering a new age of Fallout – and whether you’re a Brotherhood of Steel loyalist, a Caesar’s Legion sympathizer, or just a Vault Dweller trying to get by – you’re gonna want to stay tuned.
