It’s back from the dead! Well… sort of. 6: Siege – The Board Game, the tabletop adaptation of Ubisoft’s hit tactical shooter, is making a comeback after one of the most infamous crowdfunding disasters in recent memory. But this time, it’s not Mythic Games at the helm. Instead, Steamforged Games has swooped in to acquire the game’s intellectual property, offering a second chance to backers who were left in the dust. If you backed 6: Siege but refused to pay Mythic’s infamous extra fee, there’s finally some good news.
Let’s rewind to 2021. 6: Siege – The Board Game launched on Kickstarter, promising high-tension, asymmetrical battles inspired by Rainbow Six Siege. Fans were hyped, pledging nearly $1.5 million to bring the game to life. But then came the twist—Mythic Games, the original publisher, ran into financial trouble. In a move that stunned the tabletop community, they demanded backers cough up extra cash just to receive their pledges. Some paid, reluctantly. Many refused, outraged at the bait-and-switch tactics. And in the end, thousands of backers were left with nothing. No game. No refund. Just frustration.
Enter Steamforged Games. Known for their video game-to-board game adaptations like Monster Hunter World and Elden Ring, Steamforged has now acquired 6: Siege—not the Kickstarter campaign, not Mythic’s debts, just the rights to reprint and expand the game. And while they aren’t taking over Mythic’s mess, they are offering a deal for those who backed the game but didn’t pay Mythic’s extra fee. A reprint is on the way, and eligible backers can get a heavily discounted English-language bundle that matches their original pledge level. No extra charge from Mythic this time—just a chance to finally get the game they originally paid for.
Of course, there’s a catch. The offer only applies to those who backed at the Fresh Recruit level or higher and didn’t pay Mythic’s additional contribution. And it’s not an automatic replacement—you have to fill out a form by March 21 to qualify. After that, Steamforged will reveal pricing and details on how to claim the reprint.
Now, to be clear, this isn’t Steamforged “saving” the campaign. They aren’t in partnership with Mythic, and they’re not compensating anyone for lost money. This is purely a way to make the game available again and soften the blow for burned backers. It’s not a perfect solution, but given the alternative—nothing—it’s a rare shot at redemption for a game that nearly vanished under the weight of a crowdfunding fiasco.
And what about the future? Steamforged is teasing new content alongside the reprint, hinting at expansions or possibly even a second wave of the game. If you’re still interested in storming buildings and breaching doors in tabletop form, this might be your best shot. Just make sure to sign up before March 21 if you want in.
6: Siege is back—but whether it can rebuild its shattered reputation remains to be seen.
